We would like to extend our thanks to all the Minor Midget teams who played at the Cavanagh Sensplex today. Your patience during our Zamboni issues and subsequent start time delays were much appreciated.

To our teams heading home tonight, the Bell Sensplex thanks you for your participation in what has been the best an amazing couple of days at the Capital Mid-Season Showdown. You were a pleasure to watch and we wish you safe travels home and the best of luck in the rest of your season.

To our playoff-bound teams, congratulations on making it through! Make sure to catch some zzzz’s because tomorrow is Championship Sunday and it’s all on the line!

Scoreboard Saturday rolls on!!!

We’re halfway through Scoreboard Saturday and we already have our first round of playoffs set! The Minor Atom Division’s round robin games are complete and the playoff picture looks like this:

The Mississippi Thunder Kings will face-off in our first Semi-final match up against the Ottawa Sting at 9:10 in the morning on Championship Sunday at Palladium Insurance Arena. While the second Semi-final match up will feature the Cumberland Grad Blue against the Stittsville Rams just 15 minutes later (9:25 am) at Scotiabank Arena. The winners of these two matches will be able to enjoy their victory only for a brief time as the Minor Atom Championship is slated for 2:15pm.

The playoff picture for our other seven divisions is beginning to form, but in hockey, nothing is certain until the final buzzer. Many teams are still in the hunt for spots in the quarter and semifinals, and we won’t be certain of playoff matchups until after our final round robin games tonight. The Minor Midget  Waterloo Wolves take on the Kingston Canadians at 9:25 to close out Scoreboard Saturday.

Round-Robin Friday Comes to a Close

Day one of the 9th Annual Mid-Season Showdown presented by the Stittsville RAMS is officially in the books, and it was anything but dull. Thirty-nine of Friday’s games were decided by two or fewer goals, as teams from all over Ontario and Quebec battled new opposition in entertaining, close contests.

Special mention goes out to two Major Bantam players that have helped their teams to 2-0 records on Friday: Broderick Black of the Innisfil Winterhawks and Griffin Forbes of the Ottawa West Golden Knights. Black piled up a tournament-best five goals for the Winterhawks on Friday, while Forbes was unbeatable in net for the Golden Knights, posting consecutive shutouts.

Teams at the Bell Sensplex also got a special treat this morning, as the Ottawa Senators took to the ice for a practice prior to departing for a game in Detroit tomorrow evening. Players and parents alike crowded the boards at the Canadian Tire Arena to get an up-close look at an NHL practice (and I may have even seen some coaches taking notes).

Day two promises to be just as exciting, as teams vie for playoff positioning. Don’t forget to follow along with the day’s action on twitter@BellSensplex and to tweet us your best photos from throughout the day (use the hashtag #RAMSShowdown13).

Get some rest, because Scoreboard Saturday kicks off at 8 AM tomorrow morning!
